Food & Music festivals during the beautiful Summers of San Jose go hand in hand. There are some fantastic festivals coming our way & while we can’t possibly cover them all, there are several that we wanted to make sure you are aware of.
June 1st & 2nd from 6pm to midnight the 11th annual SubZERO festival will take place in San Jose’s downtown SoFA district. This ‘artistically bent, hi/lo-techno mashup’ is where ‘street meets geek.’ Join the artists, performers, & musicians on multiple stages celebrating the indie creative spirit & you can also enjoy South FIRST FRIDAYS monthly art walk. There are dozens of artists & vendors already scheduled & you can click here for a complete breakdown of the musical guests & what time/stages they’ll be on.
Come Be Greek For A Day!
Celebrating their 47th year, The San Jose Greek Festival will be held the entire weekend of June 1-3. Spotlighting the South Bay Area’s Greek community, this cultural festival includes traditional live music and dancing and of course delicious Greek food and drink, along with local-made and handcrafted items. This is a family friendly outdoor festival where you and the kids can experience authentic Greek cuisine and culture that’ll have you all saying “Yiamas” (to our health)!
You’ve Got a Date On Fridays.
Each and every Friday this Summer you can visit San Pedro Square for the Downtown San Jose Farmer’s Market from 10 AM – 2 PM. Live entertainment sets the atmosphere perfectly and with over 30 California-based growers, you have the opportunity to purchase fresh, locally grown produce along with handmade goods, arts & crafts, and lots of family-friendly activities. Get out and enjoy beautiful downtown San Jose and have a blast at this weekly food & music festival.
Get Your Reggae On.
July 14th at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds starting at 11am you can enjoy a fantastic day full of fun. The Island Reggae Festival is enjoying its 7th year & will have tons of live music, a Polynesian Dance Showcase, plenty of food & merchandise vendors, arts & crafts, a tattoo showcase, & unlimited carnival rides for kids 12 & under. This is a full day of fun in San Jose so be sure to take along your lawn chair or towel/blanket.

Summer is the time for food & fun around San Jose and we’ve found a few things we think you’ll really enjoy. From vegan pastries to delicious seafood, these San Jose food events are definitely kicking it up a notch.
Eat, Pray, Amore!
On Saturday June 2 from 6 to 8:30 PM, a spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be hosted by the Advent Lutheran Church in Morgan Hill. Tickets are only $5-$7, proceeds go toward the church’s Texas youth trip planned at the end of the month, & the night will include live music as well as the spaghetti dinner, drinks, & dessert. Click here to purchase tickets & help a good cause.
Outdoor Seafood Boil!
June 28th from 6:30 – 8:30 PM visit the Sunnyvale TAP’T location for a Summer Kickoff Seafood Boil. The price is only $25 & includes a “bag” of seafood including; crab legs, shrimp, clams, mussels, sausage, corn, & potatoes prepared with TAP’T’s house cajun spices. There will be open seating out on their patio along with 24 craft beers & other beverage selections for your enjoyment. Visit their website for directions & more info.
MILQ Tea Bar & Lounge
Jackson Avenue recently welcomed newcomer MILQ & so far the buzz has been pretty, well, buzzing. Set with a unique decor complete with lighted tables with swirling water inside them, club-like lighting throughout, & even live music, MILQ brings a new flavor to San Jose. Whether you’re looking for some good boba or want to cool off with something new, MILQ looks set to not disappoint.
Been smelling something new & delicious on your way to work? Downtown San Jose has a new reason to look forward to lunch time & the aroma appears to be only half the delight. The desserts & pastries at Cinnaholic will leave you questioning your assumptions regarding vegan foods & selections & I suggest that if you desire to make it home with any to share, put them in the trunk. Although this is kind of genius on Cinnaholic’s end… I had to return & restock 3 times before I finally figured out the trunk trick.
Let Us Do The Cooking!
Of course Summer in San Jose also means lots of weddings, corporate events, reunions, and so much more and we know that you want the best when it comes to catering your special day. We love what we do here at Handheld Catering for Bay Area event catering and we’ll work with you to create a custom menu that will leave your guests impressed.. and ‘fully’ satisfied. Give us a call today and let us help you make this a day to remember.

The fifth annual Vietnamese-American art and culture celebration will be Saturday, May 12 at the Fairmont San Jose from 5 PM to 10:30 PM. The Ao Dai Festival is a multi-dimensional experience that celebrates Vietnamese culture and art where you can join internationally acclaimed designers and watch a wondrously colorful parade and pre-show ceremony complete with a tapestry of colored flags and red silk banners. There will be a festival ceremony featuring a Dragon Dance Troupe, dozens of drummers, horn players, and Ao Dai models. You will also see dancers and stilt walkers dressed in the astonishingly exquisite & traditional Vietnamese long gown known as Áo Dài.
Food and wine will be served by the chefs of the Fairmont and there will be an evening cocktail reception, designer’s walk, and topping it off with a “dinner-show extravaganza” known as “Hôi Trùng Dúóng” or “Confluence of the Rivers.”
There will be performances this year by the Vietnamese Lasallian Youth Troupe, a highly energetic drum concert, and renowned singers Hà Thanh Xuân and Dông Lan will be appearing as well. The Saigon Chamber Ensemble is also set to appear and there will be other renowned musicians providing the exotic sounds of Vietnamese traditional music and sparking the festivities.
There will also be humanitarian awards, Ao Dai fashion awards, and a live auction for great items such as a wine collector package valued at $1400, a lunch at Three Seasons with Jenn Chung and festival creator Jenny Do, and an ultimate dining experience for 12 people with executive Chef Rosalie Cartwright, just to name a few.
The San Jose Museum of Art and CNDC are co-sponsors this year and the festival is organized by nonprofit organizations. If you’d like to volunteer to help at this year’s festival, or want more information about the live auction or other events, simply visit http://aodaifestival.com for more information.
The Ao Dai Festival was developed by Jenny Do to bring together artists and social activists who firmly believe in humanity through arts, attempting to use their art to change society in positive ways. The festival has generated a deeper appreciation of Vietnamese history by highlighting the best aspects of the Vietnamese culture, which is fairly unknown among the general population of this country.
Mark your calendars now for May 12 and don’t miss the spectacular Ao Dai festival in beautiful San Jose.

Summer is almost here and that means plenty of fun music festivals around the Bay Area. And that means.. FOOD!
The 41st annual Nikkei Matsuri Festival is April 29 9:30 AM to 4 PM in San Jose. Live entertainment will be on 2 stages throughout the day with performances by Shamisen, San Jose Taiko, Bachido, The Wesley Jazz Ensemble, and more! San Jose’s Japanese-American community started this festival in 1976 as part of America’s Bicentennial celebration and has been going strong ever since. You don’t want to miss it!
The Silicon Valley Irish Fleadh is May 12th – 13th in downtown Mountain View. The Gaelic word ‘Fleadh’ is pronounced “Fla” and means ‘Festival.’ This is the 4th annual festival hosted by the Irish Bar & Restaurant St. Stephens Green and is only possible through the help of volunteers. So if you’d like to join in on the fun, head on down!
The local Mountain View Avas Supermarket will be selling Irish treats like Tayto and other popular Irish snacks and local Irish vendors will have Fish & Chips, Corned Beef Rolls, Shepard’s Pie, and much more. There will be plenty of beer and wine of course and you can even get your hands on a commemorative glass at this year’s festival. But an Irish festival wouldn’t be complete without music and this year the US tribute band Zoo Station is returning along with The Black Donnellys, which will be part of their World Breaking Tour of 60 gigs in 50 states in 35 days. There will be other music entertainment throughout the weekend and you can find out more details at their website. Don’t miss the fun!
And that’s barely getting the Summer started! We’ll have more info in the coming weeks on other festivals and events around San Jose & the Bay Area, so check back often and let us know if there’s an event you’d like us to talk about.

We recently did an event for a large tech company here in the Silicon Valley, and what better place to host it, but our very own Tech Museum in San Jose.
The Tech Museum of Innovation is a family-friendly interactive science and technology center located in the heart of downtown San Jose. It has become a landmark for visitors seeking a glimpse of the most inventive place on Earth — Silicon Valley.
Not only are we so lucky to have such an amazing resource in our area, but the fact that we can use it as a venue is AMAZING! Check out some of our highlights of the event.
The Tech’s large floor plan is adaptable, providing space for everything from an intimate seated dinner to a large corporate reception. They have interactive exhibits providing an exciting, unique backdrop and built-in entertainment that will make your event an affair to remember. Bonus: The Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater is also available as a one-of-a-kind addition. Give Handheld Catering a call and experience our full service catering services for your next corporate event.
The Tech’s exhibits are never the same twice! So why not make it an annual event. Too far to drive? The Tech is within walking distance of The Fairmont, Hyatt Place, Marriott and Hilton hotels.
For our last event, we started off the night on the upper level where the guests enjoyed 3 signature cocktails for the night.
MCCing Double Aged Bourbon, Lemonade and Iced Tea
Markowitz Mule: Moscow Mules in Classic Copper Cups
RWBees Knees: Non Alcoholic Pear Sparkler with Pear and Lemon Juice, Honey,
Sugar, Club Soda, Dash of Nutmeg, Rosemary Branch Stir Stick
To go along with the drinks, our chefs served 4 different appetizers cooked fresh from our pop up kitchen downstairs. The appetizers were out of this world!
Polenta Tonnato: Fried Polenta Cakes, Tuna, Scallions, Capers, Lemon Aioli,
Parsley, Shredded Egg
Petite Vegetarian Spring Rolls with Spicy Mae Ploy Sauce
Butternut Squash Risotto Cakes with Sage and Lemon Aioli
Mini Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Skewers with Pineapple
The dinner reception was then moved to the lower floor where the guest enjoyed multiple station buffet.
The stations consisted of 5 full stations with 3 to 4 options per table.
A fresh station where the Chinese chicken salad was the star.
The Mexican Station that had the best street tacos you can ask for.
The Indian Station with the Chicken Tikka Masala and fresh Naan blew people away.
The Classics was by far a crowd pleaser, we could not pick between the Seared Filet of Salmon with a Soft Miso Glaze on a bed of Seaweed or the New York Steak that was carved right in front of you.
And to finish with a bang, the Sweet Bite Station that had the creamiest Panna Cotta!
Our team know how to make a menu and our chefs know how to execute it to the max.
After the meal, the guest dance for the remainder of the night.
Let Handheld Catering handle your next event. Our event planners will handle all the details from booking your venue, creating a menu and all your rental needs. Contact us today.
